Why Choosing Montessori Was The Best Decision For Our Family

Being a scientist mother ain’t easy. You know, you need to do everything according to the research. Unfortunately, motherhood doesn’t give you much time to research the best choice in every situation. I needed an already thought-through system.

So, instead of researching independent topics, I looked into educational styles to help my children grow into curious, bright, and calm little humans. I could see kids lost in screens all around me, and I didn’t want that for our family. Was there a better option?

I soon found out that kids need hands-on exploration. They need to get a feel for different textures, manipulate objects, and be given the space to train their fine and gross motor skills.

For example, the first thing we did was to place our children on a floor bed. And by the first thing, I mean by the time they were three months old. If they needed me, I could sneak into bed and cuddle or breastfeed comfortably.

Once they were old enough to crawl, they decided when it was time to get out of bed themselves. Their room was childproofed so that they couldn’t get hurt while exploring.

On top of that, I let them explore how to dress themselves since they show some interest around the year mark. By the time they were two they were dressing themselves and choosing their own clothes, which were stored at their level.

Sure, there were some initial messes, but they eventually grew out of pulling everything out of their drawers.

And what was the result of all of this? Well, I have to say this has contributed tremendously to their personality. They are extremely affectionate and enjoy cuddles and snuggles, but everybody praises them for their independence and bravery. When we gather with older kids, they just tag along and play, something that surprises all other parents.
